Wordle provides players with hints to work out the day’s word by using a color-coded system, which tells them when a letter is in the right place in the word (green), when it is in the wrong place (yellow), and when it’s not in the word at all (grey).

Even with this system in place, though, it can sometimes be difficult to solve the word of the day, and so Newsweek has come up with some useful tips to get players on the right path.

Created by Josh Wardle and made public in October 2021 the game has truly become a global phenomenon, drawing in over 45 million users a day to try and solve the day’s brainteaser.

It’s so popular, in fact, that is has also become the inspiration for a number of other games including the math-based Nerdle, and music guessing game Heardle.

Wordle was bought from Wardle by The New York Times, and it moved to the publication’s gaming platform in February 2022.
