The first puzzle of August has proven to be a headscratcher, which is why Newsweek has compiled a list of hints and tricks to help you solve it.
The premise of it is quite simple. Each day, Wordle players have to guess a five-letter word thanks to use a color-coded system that shows how close they are to getting the right answer.
So when a letter is in the right position it will turn green. Any letters that are in the word but have been placed in the wrong position will turn yellow. Letters that aren’t in the word at all will turn gray.
If you’ve never tried the puzzle before, you can do so for free here.
The online puzzle was first created by Josh Wardle in 2013. He returned to it and finished it during a COVID-19 lockdown with help from his partner Palak Shah.
Wardle said he never intended to make money off Wordle. He said: “What’s interesting is, people ask me all the time about the monetization stuff. Like, ‘You could put ads on it, you could do premium.’
“And I don’t know, maybe I’m an idiot.
“None of that really appeals to me. I think because I started with the intention of not doing it, it’s been easy to say no. If I’d been trying to make a viral game I think it would be very different.”
‘Wordle’ #408 Hints and Clues for Monday, August 1
Wardle recommends that players spend their first few attempts eliminating as much of the alphabet as possible.
So, we recommend that your first attempt be a word that contains plenty of vowels, such as AUDIO. It’s best to stay away from less common letters such as X, Q or Z, until you have a better idea of what the word might be.
The answer to today’s Wordle will be revealed at the end of this article, but here are some hints if you want help to solve it.
Hint #1: The word ends with the letter “T”
Hint #2: There are two vowels
Hint #3: The word starts with the letter “Q”
Hint #4: It is a measuring unit
