The puzzle gives its players a helping hand by using a color-coded system that shows them when a letter is in the right place (green tile), when it is in the wrong place (yellow tile), and when the letter isn’t in the word at all (grey tile).

Wordle was originally created by Josh Wardle, and he first made the game for him and his partner to play before deciding to make it available to the public in October 2021.
The game quickly became a global phenomenon thanks to its fun premise, drawing in more than 45 million users after first starting out with just 90 active players.
Wardle’s game became so much of a success that Wardle went on to sell the puzzle to The New York Times in January 2022, and the publication has hosted the game since February.
