Unlike many other games, Wordle does not have a calculated difficulty curve. Instead, creator Josh Wardle created a list of 2,500 words before launching the now-popular game but did not share them out in any particular order.
This means Wordle has a completely randomized sequence of words, meaning players, veteran and new, alike start off on the same footing. But the randomized nature of the game could make today’s answer trickier to solve.
Before Newsweek reveals some hints to today’s puzzle, here’s more information about how Wordle became such a huge success.
In the Statista graphic below, you can see Wordle’s meteoric rise from an intimate experience to a global phenomenon.
Wardle created Wordle as an activity for him and his partner to do during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Shortly after the game launched in October 2021, it had only 90 active players but now registers more than 1 million players every day.
Wordle has also started a sort of puzzle game trend, with the geography-based Worldle and math-themed Nerdle being among some that have recently gained traction online.
The booming popularity of Wordle eventually led The New York Times to acquire the puzzle game for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.
