So far, Netflix has not announced that White Lines will get a Season 2, but that should not be a major concern to fans of the British-Spanish series. The streamer generally waits at least 30 days before announcing renewals so that they have a full month of data to look at.
However, even if Netflix does renew the show for more, viewers may not hear about it until it has filmed. The streaming service has a habit of not revealing when its Spanish series have been recommissioned. Hit show Elite, for example, filmed Seasons 2 and 3 together, but Netflix did not announce that third season was coming until the second had been released.
A number of its main cast members have expressed willingness to return, which is a good sign. Star Daniel Mays told The Version: “White Lines was amazing to film, I loved it, I would definitely do more.” The Line of Duty actor also told Metro U.K., “I think it’s dying, it’s calling out for a second series… none of it’s been properly resolved. I don’t wanna give away too much but, yeah, I’m just pitching for a second series.'
Tom Rhys Harries, who plays Axel on the show, said: “Yeah, the doors are open for that to happen.” This may surprise viewers of White Lines—after all, the whole first season focused on the murder of Axel, and with that murder solved in the finale, it is uncertain how or why the character would return in Season 2.
However, it seems like there may be a plan for more. Deadline reported that the makers of the show have a three-season plan for the show, with the article noting that, “if the show does the business for Netflix, it will be back.” And with the show already topping charts, this could be a good sign we will get more.
White Lines actor Angela Griffin hinted at Pina’s plan for Season 2 when she told Metro U.K., “I think Alex has got a Season 2 in mind, he’s got a story there, but it’s just a case of if no-one watches it then he’s not going make it—so everyone has to watch it!”
As for Season 2’s release date, it has not been announced when the show might come to Netflix. However, if White Lines follows the example of Pina’s previous show, Money Heist, they may decide to film the next two seasons back-to-back. This would mean a longer gap between Seasons 1 and 2 (there was a 20-month gap between the first two seasons of Money Heist), but a shorter gap between Seasons 2 and 3 (in Money Heist’s case, nine months).
White Lines is streaming now on Netflix.
